Presenter Information
Gary Taubes is an investigative science/health journalist and the co-founder and president of the non-profit Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI.org). He is the author of “The Case Against Sugar” (2016), “Why We Get Fat” (2011) and “Good Calories, Bad Calories” (2008). His books have been translated into two dozen languages. Gary has focused his reporting on controversial science and, specifically, the confluence of research in nutrition, obesity, chronic disease and public health policy.
Dr David Unwin is a GP in Southport, United Kingdom where he has worked since 1986 as a family doctor. For the past few years he has been a Royal College of General Practitioners expert clinical advisor on diabetes. As a result of his interests in both better communication with patients and Type 2 diabetes he was made Royal College of General Practice National Champion for Collaborative Care and Support Planning in Obesity & Diabetes in 2015. David is particularly interested in the low carb-diet as an alternative to lifelong medication in type 2 diabetes and has published research into improving liver function and blood pressure by reducing dietary carbohydrate, especially sugar.
Dr Paul Mason is a sports medicine and exercise physician who developed an interest in low carbohydrate diets in 2011. He then spent thousands of hours reading and analysing the scientific literature. For the last three years, he has been applying this knowledge in treating metabolic and arthritis patients who have achieved dramatic and sustained weight loss and reductions in joint pain, improved metabolic well being, diabetic control and reductions in arthritis.
Dr Rod Tayler is an anaesthetist from Melbourne and the founder of Low Carb Down Under.
